“Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people. We sometimes forget that great truth, and we never should. Happy Fourth of July.” – Ronald Reagan, July 4th 1981
On this 4th of July we celebrate 250 years as a nation. I am proud to be called an American and I proudly fly the Red, White, and Blue. I am blessed that our Almighty God allowed in His providence for me to be born into this land. There are countless members of my family who have served this nation in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. I myself was willing and accepted but alas the word asthma prevented me from serving. I have benefitted from the freedom of this nation and I pray many generations to come will also have the same opportunity. We are not a perfect nation because we ourselves are imperfect people. We are however a great nation. There is few if any other nation to which the world desires to come. Generations have immigrated to the nation and become proud productive Americans. Part of our uniqueness is our diversity but our unity as one nation under God is what makes us great. We all bleed the same blood and we all have need of our savior Jesus Christ. There are no African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, Irish-Americans nor any other hyphenated Americans, WE ARE AMERICANS!
I do feel we are giving up our freedoms more and more each day. From taxes, to lack of privacy, to over regulation of the nanny state the question has to be asked how free are we really? The first physical act of rebellion in 1773 was the Boston Tea Party. It happened over a 3 pence tax on one pound of tea. I will render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s just as Jesus taught and I will obey the authority over me because all authority is given by God. I however will not sit idly by. I will vote first and foremost against sin. Secondly I will vote for those that promote freedom, accountability, and compassion for our citizens. Third and most important I will pray. I will pray for elected officials from Washington all the way down to Transylvania County. I will pray for those I agree and I will pray for those I disagree. I will pray for our community. I will pray for our church. I will pray for you. I will pray that souls be saved. I will pray that the saved live a life worthy of their salvation. I will pray that the name of Jesus be spread through our community, across this nation, and around the world!
May God Bless America!
