Yesterday I was planning to go and pray with Ms Linda Maxwell Fisher before she had her pacemaker surgery. I was headed to town and almost in Brevard when I heard a pop followed by a bump bump bump everytime my tire went around. I pulled into the Ace Hardware parking lot looking for my flat tire. I was sad to find a huge bolt in my tire but also surprised it was barely leaking air. I quickly jumped in the truck and headed to Charlie’s Tire. Well my happiness over the slow leak turned to frustration learning there was a 2-3 hour wait. Apparently everyone in Brevard was either buying tires or had a flat themselves.
I was quickly reminded the best laid plans sometimes included detours. At first great frustration, then realization, then gratitude.
If one has to have a bolt in your tire what better place than almost in town? If one has to pull over and check a tire what better place than a nice level concrete parking lot? If one has a leak what better than a slow leak? If one needs a tire repair shop what’s better than better than a mile away? If one is hungry what better than having a slice of homemade pizza less than a block from the tire repair shop? If one has to wait for 3 hours what better weather to sit and read? If one does have to have a repair what better than $33?
The devotion yesterday mentioned gratitude was choice. Little did I know it was just for me.
