Yesterday I ventured out and went to the Shelby Hamvention. Unfortunately, it was not a convention of delicious hams smoked in amazing ways. It was a convention of amateur radio enthusiasts selling, buying, and talking about radios and technology, both old and new. Look, I understand I’m a nerd but there were some weird people down there. They looked weird, they talked weird it was bad. I mean nerds on the spectrum. I had to ask myself, “Is this what people think about me”? 🤪
It brings up a good thought about church. What does the world see when it looks at the church? Does it see a little cult of personality of religious zealots? Does it see high and mighty hypocrites? Or does it see a real reflection of the bride of Christ? Folks we are all sinners saved by grace. Without Him we have nothing to offer.
I am reminded of the time Jesus and his disciples went into Samaria. The disciples went into town and Jesus spoke with the woman at the well. The disciples did their own thing staying to themselves eating potted meat and soda crackers(the weirdo’s). The lady at the well meets Jesus goes back into to town with her friends and proclaims, “Come see a man that told me all that ever I did. Is not this the Christ?” People it’s all about Jesus! He is why we gather. He is why we worship! He is all that matters. Tell the world JESUS SAVES!
