Pastor’s Update — May 29, 2026

Just a little trip down memory lane today.

Most of us now have an infinite amount of music at our fingertips. Between Apple, Spotify, and YouTube you can find an old tune or band that brings back fond memories.

Ronnie Reid and I share a common interest in older country music. In particular Merle Haggard and George Jones. There are many others but we always seemed to land on those two. I will say however that sweet Mrs Rhonda hated when we talked about George Jones. She would sit in that recliner and just roll her eyes.

Well last week Spotify brought back an oldie but a goodie in The Statler Brothers. I can’t remember all the words to all the songs but one chorus is now stuck in my head and it goes like this

Countin flowers on the wall, that don’t bother me at all

Playin solitaire ’til dawn with a deck of fifty one

Smokin cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo

Now don’t tell me I’ve nothing to do

I know all the younger folks and probably most all of you would agree I’m just a little touched in the head but I’m just remembering rides in a pickup truck with some great uncles I was blessed to have in my life. I remember spit cups, mud in the floor, dust on the dash and dogs in the back. Both the floorboard and dash were so dirty you could probably grow corn. Uncle Jack once actually had a plant start to sprout in his floorboard. Riding dirt roads from daylight till dark or in some cases dark to daylight.

So if you here me mumbling or trying to sing some old forgotten tune just leave me alone. I’m reliving my childhood in my mind and just enjoying the moment.

Today share a song with me that brings back a memory for you. It can be gospel, bluegrass, country or even classic rock. We even have on church member who has an affinity for some Pink Floyd and I fully expect to hear from them today.
