It was fellowship meal and business meeting time on Wednesday night. There was some great food and everyone enjoyed the meal. As we were finishing the meal I began to prepare for the business meeting by handing out copies of the budget. Aven looks up and me and asks, “Can I play basketball?” My response was, “What did your dad say?” I love these kiddos and I’d give them almost anything they ask for but in this case dad was the final authority. I pointed at James and said dad gets to make that decision. If he says yes then after the business meeting sure. I might be the preacher but that never overrules dad.
We live in a world ruled by governments and authorities over us but God alone is our ultimate authority. God calls us to obey those that rule over us and government is ordained by God. However, their authority is limited and we should always obey God above man.
Recently in Britain a pastor was arrested for quoting John 3:16 standing on a sidewalk. He was arrested because his speech was considered offensive. May God bless this dear pastor.
