Pastor’s Update — June 30, 2026

Each spring I head to Whisling Dixie in Sapphire for ferns and flowers around the house. Everyone there knows me and I know them. We talk, I ask the them about recommendations, I walk around looking but generally end up with the same thing every year. I know my strengths, ferns and dragon wing begonias. Ferns are easy. Water them and rotate them and every things is grand. Dragon wing begonias are almost as easy, water and rotate. This year I ventured out a little. The front porch still has the ferns. For the back I tried a new flowering plant and I can’t even remember the name off the top of my head. I purchased 3 of these hanging baskets. They hang in a row across the back deck. They are planted in the exact same pot, with the same soil, with the same sun and wind exposure. One is thriving, one is ok, and the other one is wilted by the end of the day everyday. A little water brings them all up to standard every morning but the hot sun takes it toll on that one flower on the end.

We are a lot like those three plants across the back deck. Some of us thrive no matter what comes. Some handle life ok. Yet others everyday is a struggle. Life is tough but we are blessed to have a master gardener Jesus that supplies our every need. He cares for us with gentle care and loving kindness. He is the living water.

David wrote, As the deer panteth for the water so my soul longeth after thee!

Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,

but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
