I read a quote by DeWitt Talmadge this morning and it went something like this, “Satan makes his chief conquest over men who have nothing to do or over men who have plenty to do but refuse to do it.”
We’ve all heard the old wives tale, “ Idle hands are the devils workshop.” Both of these quotes are still very relevant today and should give us pause to heed the warning included. Satan preys who on the idle mind and hands. Thinking good thoughts and doing good deeds takes effort, intentionality, and determination.
Idleness will lead to all manner of sin including worry, gossip, lust, envy, and jealousy. Although those are sins of the mind and heart they will also eventually lead to greater sins of the flesh.
There is another saying I’ll leave you with, “ Get busy living or get busy dying.” This is one reason I believe every person in church should be responsible for or doing something serve. It’s just one more way to keep satan at bay.
