Susan and I enjoyed our few days away and the rest was awesome. We came back late on Sunday and planned a few more days without her going back to work and get a few things accomplished around the house. Yesterday I was out running errands and almost everywhere I went God presented me with opportunities to serve.
I talked with a father that was struggling with the idea of just being tired. He was ashamed that he was tired serving his family. Not as in wanting to give up or walk away but just physical exhaustion. Next I was getting gas in my truck and started a conversation with a young man next to me pumping gas into his truck. He finished and started to leave but his truck wouldn’t crank. I helped him get back on the road but I also got to share the gospel with him. Later I had an older gentleman ask if he could tell me something. As tears filled his eyes, he cried almost beyond control, and told me last week he lost his wife of 63 years. I held his hand and we cried together as he told me what a wonderful lady she was for all of her life. I also got to share the gospel him and reminded him of the great reunion in heaven for believers.
None of these men were church members or associated with our church. One is a friend, one I barely know, and the other a complete stranger. All three just needed someone. Not necessarily me being a pastor. Just someone to stop and take the time. Sure some will say it’s because I’m a preacher. I challenge that thought. It was because I was available. The call to serve applies to every believer.
I was reminded of 1 Peter 4:10
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.
I promise you opportunities to serve will come your way everyday. Do what you can, wherever you can, with whatever gifts you have to serve one another!
