I ran across this devotion from Richard Blackaby this morning. It’s mostly his with some thoughts added by me. I pray it is a blessing to you this morning.
Psalm 89:15
“Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face.”
There is a sound heaven never grows tired of hearing. It is not the moan of unbelief or the murmur of complaint. It is the festal shout—the trumpet blast of victory, the jubilee cry of the redeemed, the glad acclamation of a people who know their King is on the throne.
Ethan the Ezrahite wrote these words while celebrating God’s covenant with David. Later in the same psalm the circumstances grow dark. Yet right here, in the middle of praise, he declares the secret of a blessed life: some people know that sound. They recognize it. They join it. And because they do, they walk—not sit, not stumble—in the light of God’s face.
To walk in the light of His face is to live under His smile. It is favor, not fickleness. It is guidance, not guessing. It is the conscious nearness of a holy God who has pledged Himself to His people in steadfast love. The world walks by the flickering light of its own opinions. The people of God walk by the steady light of His countenance.
Friend, do you know that shout? Not merely the noise of Sunday singing, but the settled confidence that Christ has won, the covenant stands, and the King still reigns. When the news is hard and the path is steep, the blessed ones still lift the shout—because they know whose face is shining on them.
Walk today in that light. Let His favor be your strength and His name be your song. The people who know the shout do not wait for perfect circumstances. They walk now, because the Light of the world has already shown His face.
Lord, teach us the festal shout. Keep us walking in the light of Your face until faith becomes sight. Amen!
