I love maps! Not online maps but big foldable paper maps. New maps, old maps it doesn’t matter there is something special about searching, planning, and dreaming of distant places.
When I was an engineer the office that held our plotter(the large machine that printed our blueprints and drawings) was lined with maps. We had a state map, a United States map, a map of the Western Hemisphere, a map of Europe, a map of Asia, and a map of Africa. I guess it was an engineer thing because it was also a room where several of us would stand around staring at those maps and talking about where we had been, where we would like to go, and how we would get to particular destination. One area of discussion would always come up about how maps change over the centuries and decades. The physical world has been the same for thousands of years but our knowledge, understanding, and exploration have expanded. There is always something new to see.
When I hear Christians say they have read and know all the stories in the Bible and heard all the sermons I stand there amazed. I find new things all the time. A new perspective, a deeper understanding, or more insight. That is the power of the Holy Spirit revealing deeper and deeper truth. The Bible has remained unchanged for almost 2000 years yet I have barely begun to scratch the surface of the greatness contained in the Word of God. There is no new revelation, just better understanding of God’s plan for my life and the world.
Just like us as engineers exploring distant lands and dreaming of adventure. Spend time in the Word, explore the greatness of God and dream of heaven!
