I don’t think many of us expect that growing old part to arrive so quickly. It’s takes awhile to grow old–it’s a process, and that process starts a little earlier than we imagine when we’re starry-eyed 20-somethings. There comes a point when it gets harder to keep the extra pounds off. Silver hair or no hair become the predominant look upon our head. We look in the mirror and are confused by what we see. We only pictured the young us but the middle and old us came far to quickly.
Hopefully the middle and old us begins to soften our hearts. Not that we should ever compromise but we begin to understand every hill is not worth dying on. We speak with more wisdom, we are slower to anger, and we are quicker to forgive. Sure our bodies don’t bounce back as fast. Things hurt longer and recovery is slower. Even though our bodies aren’t what they use to be enjoy the blessings of the middle and old.
God has a perfect plan for each stage of life. Just because it’s not what it use to be doesn’t mean it can’t still be awesome. The slowing of our bodies gives us more time for our souls to draw closer to Christ.
